I don’t know about you guys, but I am absolutely sick of seeing the Padres. They’re bad, they’re boring, and they’re really getting old. Fortunately, other than a brief two-game series in mid-May, the Dodgers don’t see them again until after the All-Star Break. (Though the nearly-guaranteed wins are nice, of course.)
Clayton Kershaw goes up against Edinson Volquez in a rematch of Opening Day; like players on both squads, Kershaw will be wearing #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson. In addition, the Dodgers will be wearing Brooklyn “B” caps, an item I wish I’d known a week ago so I could have had it as the logo for today’s game on the top schedule bar. Headed into Monday’s off-day, the usual lineup is in place, and the entire bullpen should be available.
Oh, and the most important roster move of all comes in the broadcast booth, where Vin Scully is expected to be return from illness today. Just wouldn’t have been right to have to listen to Steve Lyons pretending he knows anything about Jackie Robinson, would it?
