Another day, another interesting Dodger lineup. Mark Ellis isn’t starting, which isn’t a total surprise given that he was taken out on a hard slide last night. (Elian Herrera is in the lineup in his place, hitting second, because that’s what second basemen do, don’t you know.) But Dee Gordon is also not in the lineup today on the heels of yesterday’s 0-5 that brought his average down to an even .200 and increased speculation that he may be headed on his way down to the minors. That’s not going to happen today, partially because the move hasn’t already been made and the Dodgers can’t be without him on a day in which Ellis may not be available – and good lord, the starting infield is already James Loney / Herrera / Justin Sellers / Adam Kennedy – and partially because Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA notes that Gordon was at the FanFest today signing autographs.
Down in Albuquerque, Aaron Miles makes his debut for the Isotopes today after being transferred from extended spring training, hitting third and playing third base. Any roster move does seem to depend on Ellis’ leg, but it’s hard not to think that we’re going to be seeing Miles – or at least Ivan De Jesus – sooner than later.
As for who is in the lineup tonight, Don Mattingly has stacked his lefties against veteran righty Jake Westbrook. Other than A.J. Ellis & Justin Sellers, everyone else is either a lefty or a switch-hitter. That just makes Gordon’s absence seem even more suspicious, though I imagine we’ll find out more about the infield situation soon.
