Dodgers @ Diamondbacks May 22, 2012: Harang vs Cahill

For the first time since Friday, Dee Gordon rejoins the Dodger starting lineup at shortstop. (He won’t be tomorrow, though.) For the first time all season, and just the second time in his career other than interleague games in which the DH was used, he’s not hitting leadoff, having been bumped by Don Mattingly down to the eight spot.

It’s a move we’ve been clamoring for for weeks, and though it took longer than we’d hoped, but kudos to Don Mattingly for finally realizing that having a player teetering on the edge of the Mendoza Line atop the lineup is untenable, blinding speed aside. Honestly, it’s not completely out of the question that Gordon heads back to the minors when Jerry Hairston is ready to return on Friday, though it’s probably more likely to be Ivan De Jesus.

Gordon hitting eighth pushes A.J. Ellis up to seventh, which is still too low. But then again, who cares where he’s batting in the Dodger lineup when we can try to get him a place in the lineup of the NL All-Star team? Today, that idea gets an extra boost with the launch of Stephen Caver’s http://ajellis2kc.com, your home for everything AJ-related. Check it out, but toss a couple hundred votes the man’s way first, won’t you?
