Dodgers @ Mariners June 9, 2012: Kershaw vs Vargas

With the exception of Alex Castellanos taking over right field, pushing Andre Ethier to DH, Juan Rivera to left, and Bobby Abreu to the bench, the Saturday Dodger lineup against lefty Jason Vargas is the same as it was against Kevin Millwood last night. That’s not really a bad thing, since I can’t imagine anyone’s really clamoring for Adam Kennedy or Matt Treanor, though it’s interesting to see that after Ivan De Jesus‘ short stint as pinch hitter of choice, he can’t buy himself a start. We haven’t seen his name in the lineup since last Friday, June 1, and he’s been seen just twice as a pinch hitter since then. Granted, Elian Herrera‘s been great and all, but I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing De Jesus get a chance every now and then. I suppose it’s all moot, of course, since he’s probably heading out when Juan Uribe returns on Monday.

Let’s hope that this group can do better against Vargas than they did against Millwood; of the eight Dodgers who have faced him before (including Clayton Kershaw), Rivera (two) and Ethier (one) have each taken him deep previously.
