Dodgers @ Diamondbacks July 6, 2012: Kershaw vs Collmenter

Adam Kennedy hits fifth tonight against Josh Collmenter and the Diamondbacks, and that’s relevant for no reason other than that the Dodgers are somehow 10-0 this season when he’s hit fifth. It’s a statistical anomaly, of course, since it’s not like Kennedy has been otherworldly good hitting fifth (.276/.326/.375, though I guess a .701 OPS is more than you usually get from him), and it’s convenient that he happened to hit fifth just once during a June where the team was losing left and right. Still, it’s one of those fun things that pops up during a long year, and with Clayton Kershaw going tonight, it’s not hard to see it pushing to 11-0.

If Kershaw does take a lead into the late innings, could we see Javy Guerra back in his old role for a night? Kenley Jansen & Ronald Belisario have each pitched for three nights in a row and are presumably unavailable, though Guerra hasn’t yet pitched since returning from the DL and it’s tough to throw a guy into that situation. If not Guerra, I suppose Josh Lindblom is your closer.

In happy news, 2012 first round pick Corey Seager is making his professional debut tonight, hitting sixth and playing shortstop for the Ogden Raptors against the Orem Owlz. Yes, those are real teams in affiliated professional baseball.
