Dodgers @ Cardinals July 24, 2012: Kershaw vs Wainwright

Hey, remember when Ryan Dempster was all headed to the Braves yesterday, and then he wasn’t, and then Dempster himself claimed that there was no deal, and then it came out that he felt “blindsided” by the move, apparently making him the only person on the planet who didn’t know he was all but certain to be traded? Even now, we still don’t know what’s going on with him, as he’s listed as tomorrow’s Chicago starter and claiming he could wait all the way until the deadline if necessary.

Good times.

Well, now it’s getting even more fun with today’s news that the holdup isn’t just because Dempster wants the Braves to sweeten the pot, it’s because he apparently really, really wants to be a Dodger. That has the multiple affect of A) making us worry that maybe the Dodgers will actually trade for the rental Dempster B) making us hope that Ned Colletti is screening Theo Epstein’s calls just to screw with him, then calling him back and leaving voicemails like, “well, I guess I could take him, maybe, but whatever,” and C) causing Braves fans to freak out.

But wait! There’s more. The Dodgers, as expected, have placed calls on just about everybody around, including Hanley Ramirez & Zack Greinke. Having fun yet? At least Clayton Kershaw is on the hill tonight.
