Diamondbacks @ Dodgers July 30, 2012: When Are We Going To Get To the Fireworks Factory?

I can’t even begin to discuss all the craziness that’s gone on in the rumor mill today… so I won’t. For all the posturing, for all the sources, for all the suggestions, for all of the hilarity that is certainly going on behind the scenes, there’s still no moves to report for the Dodgers. But what that means, with the 4pm ET trade deadline tomorrow a good six hours ahead of the scheduled first pitch of the Dodger game, is that the lineup you’re seeing tonight is almost certainly one you’re never, ever going to see again. When you’ve got Juan Rivera still hitting second against a righty, that is in no way a bad thing. (Despite the proclamations of some that James Loney is “heating up”, he’s still getting benched against righty pitching. While there’s certainly a fine argument to be made that his superior defense and Rivera’s general lousiness makes this a poor choice, it mostly just shows how little Don Mattingly thinks of him at this point. Not that I can really disagree.)

Phillies call up Dominic Brown, so Victorino and/or Pence are gone

My little brother's take on Victorino:

"Absolute gamer, winner, hustler...was a Rule 5 player the Pads took from the Dodgers, returned to the Dodgers, then eventually wound up in Philly and has been a catalyst to their great teams.  However, he has been less than himself this year...not sure if it is a free agency thing (pressing), or just a bit of age and injury.  Seems to have been dinged up this year.  Has been a speed guy.  Good centerfielder...not sure if he would knock Kemp to left...doubt it."

Brandon League's tweet basically sounds like a retirement announcement.

@Gilbert_Venge I still think we end up with Dempster. The Cubs want SOMETHING out of him.

@The_Real_Paul  @EephusBlue i like the attention of knowing random people care about things I do, regardless of whether or not i beg them for a RT; they also have never mattered till like 20 minutes ago

@JakeHorvitz  @SCruzDodgers  @EephusBlue We both have strong personalities and we happen to disagree about a lot of things (though I think we meet consensus quite a bit too). Half the fun of a site like this is interacting with people who aren't like you and still being friends at the end of the day.

@SCruzDodgers  @JakeHorvitz  @EephusBlue Seriously? this is the comments section on a baseball blog, not the associated press. You're going to pick apart my phrasing in a clearly biased post that I mostly intended to piss off eephus while lightheartedly making fun of a band I don't care for?

@The_Real_Paul  @JakeHorvitz  @EephusBlue it's the phrasing of sentences. "is" is very factual where as "i think" is stating "i believe this is my opinion, and i understand that others may differ." "is" comes off as "this is what it is and no one else's opinion matters."

I understand strong personalities, but phrasing is everything.

@JakeHorvitz  @SCruzDodgers  @EephusBlue You should listen. A lot of people like them, and they're considered fairly influential. If you ask me, it's like listening to a blender with nails in it, but as Amy made clear, that's just like, my opinion, man.

@JakeHorvitz  @EephusBlue Pearl Jam is an overrated 90's band with a barely comprehensible lead singer and one good "song" that's actually just a cover an old Hendrix song with different "lyrics".
