Diamondbacks @ Dodgers September 1, 2012: Skaggs vs Beckett

As many of you know, I’m getting married on September 15, two weeks from today. But now that I’m reading details of the Baseball Prospectus event being held at Dodger Stadium that day, I’m suddenly no longer certain that going to the wedding is the best use of my time.

Check this out:

Vin, Logan White, and Dan Evans? I can think of worse ways to spend a Saturday.

As for this Saturday, in which Josh Beckett makes his Dodger Stadium debut in the home whites and his first appearance there at all since 2005: as expected, the Dodgers called up catcher Tim Federowicz and pitchers John ElyJavy Guerra now that rosters have expanded. I’m pleasantly surprised to see Ely, who was the PCL Pitcher of the Year but who had seemingly been passed by Stephen Fife on the depth chart. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, Alfredo Silverio (who is out for the year after a car accident last spring) was finally moved to the 60-day disabled list, where he will gain major league service time. We’ll see a few more guys trickle in over the next week or two once the Albuquerque season ends, and still no news yet on the status of Kenley Jansen, Chad Billingsley, or Scott Elbert.

Just saw the Bleacher Report article referenced below. This is now the 1st comment under it:

You know, I rarely start a criticism like this, but I'm going to.

Fuck you.

FUCK. YOU.

You wouldn't know a good baseball broadcaster if he was sitting in your goddamned living room.

You make absolutely ZERO reference to ANYTHING that would indicate that there is ANY reason to get Scully out of the booth other than his age. He hasn't won Sportscaster of the Year in 30 years? So fuckin' what? When's the last time YOU won any awards for hack journalism?

Someone should "gracefully" find a way to make sure you never post another Bleacher Report article.

In conclusion, FUCK YOU.

With all the firepower added since the purchase, I still find myself hoping that Chad and Kenley recover quickly.  That says something about the quality of the farm system and also about the quality of players available via trades and free agency.  I like our chances of advancing to the NLCS if they both return to form this season.

My brother asked if his Kevin Brown jersey is now old enough to be considered retro and therefore acceptable to wear to a game?

I wish they would announce the 40-man move already. I've got things to do.

One less arm for the pen.  Even with the overstuffed rotation, if Withrow could ever get it together, he'd be interesting to see develop.@Mike Petriello

@el serracho That's bleacher report's thing. They bring computers to mental institutions so they get the most odd/infuriating stories. I'm convinced. That guy was probably a schizo.

@el serracho Did Jeff Kent write that? Honestly, Vinny gets names wrong a couple times a game, but he is still very sharp. When he talks it's pure poetry.

@el serracho I just read that, this is why bleacher report must burned to the ground.

 @ThtsaPaddlin

His idea of a good broadcaster would be someone who invokes the name of willie mays every 10 minutes.

@Tangled Up In Blue I looked around that page at the other headlines and I honestly didn't think sports reporting could be any more vapid and useless than espn. congrats on achieving that... i suppose.

@Dang88  @Tangled Yeah, I mean I like Abreu off the bench. High OBP, decent speed, works the count well. But he's definitely not pre-September material. If they call Gwynn up it'll make up for the defensive shorcomings.
