Keep Calm and Go Dodgers

As I’m sure you all know by now, I’m taking off this afternoon for ten days in Europe, specifically Spain & Germany. Yes, I scheduled my honeymoon during the playoff push. To be fair, at the time, I didn’t think the Dodgers had much of a chance to make any noise in 2012, and though they certainly haven’t been quiet, it’s not really looking like they’re a playoff team right now either. (Especially if the news on Clayton Kershaw is bad.)

Not to worry, however: things will still push on here. There’s a game thread ready to auto-publish every day at about two hours prior to game time (I hope; the blog is set to Pacific Time, which I am not on, and military time, which I do not use, so there’s a 90% possibility something kicks off at the wrong time), and while there won’t be lineups or a recap, there will still be some fun facts in each post. There’s also something fun to go up in the morning for next Monday’s off day.

Besides, you all know that whenever I leave, great things happen, so when I return on September 28 I expect the Dodgers to have locked up a playoff spot and somehow convinced the Mariners to loan them Felix Hernandez for the stretch fun.

So have fun, try to keep it clean and somewhat on-topic in the comments, and be good: I haven’t left things entirely unpoliced.

 @el serracho yeah March.

"Green, who hit more major league home runs than any Jew since Hank Greenberg, has been attempting to resurrect his dynamic swing. “I left the game of my own volition,” he said. “I think if I wanted to, I could still be playing. But we’ll just have to see how the timing is.”

 @DBrim  @JoeyE you should try sitting in the infield between 1st and 2nd (on the grass). you'd have better luck at catching a ball hit by james loney.

 @el serracho  @JoeyE Came within 5 feet of a foul (hit by Loney!) at Fenway a couple of weeks ago, but alas...

That's the closest I've ever been.

 @DBrim  @JoeyE i really liked Shawn Green as a dodger. only foul i've ever caught was off him; line drive into my chest basically, but held on.

 @The_Real_Paul the stuff with Kenley's heart the past few years worries me that Ned's going to go overpay for a freaking closer.

Have things, like, gotten far worse commuting to DS these days?  The last time I was there was 3 years ago, and I breezed right in.  Of course, I came early, but that's what I always do since going to a game is something I take seriously.  Even commuting from the East Bay, 5 hrs, I was parked and browsing in the team store by 6 PM for a Sat night game.  When I hear folks talking about massive jams and such, I assume this is what happens when you go late.  Am I wrong?

the traffic flows out of downtown at 5pm. youre going in the opposite direction.

 @CodeBlueICU  It is much worse now than it used to be. I used to have a routine to getting there on surface streets; I still haven't figured out a good way since I started going to games after boycotting for years (2010 was the first year I went back after over a decade). And there is heavy traffic both ways. People now live in downtown and work on the Westside, or live in Pasadena and work Mid-City (or all kinds of other combinations). efb (? -- can't remember his initials) found that taking Olympic is smooth sailing, but he left UCLA at around 6:30 and got there to DS after the game started. If you drive Olympic much earlier than that, it's jammed.

 @LA Woman  @The Monocle  @LA  @CodeBlueICU the problem is the 35 miles on the NB 5 i have to suffer through to get there. can take train but return is iffy, easy to miss last train back here. is why i took advantage of wife working downtown and having hotel room recently.

@LA Woman @CodeBlueICU I take the 110 N exit Adams and take Fig through downtown. If i have to go to will call or am sitting on the 3b side I turn on Sunset and enter on that entrance. If i don't care i take Fig all the way to the freeway and get on right before the DS exit. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone.
