Dodgers @ Reds September 23, 2012

Note: Mike’s on his honeymoon until September 28! Enjoy this auto-published post and help pray that some giant breaking news didn’t drop minutes before this fun yet otherwise fluffy post went up.

I know a lot of you hate Manny Ramirez, and that’s fine. He’s certainly no saint, and his incredibly achievements as a Dodger will forever be tainted by his bust for PED usage. While I think there’s a pretty serious argument to be had that PEDs don’t cause nearly the improvement in performance as people like to think they do – there’s no way that the production Manny put up over his career was due more to drugs than his own talent, and people tend to forget that for ever star who gets busted, dozens or hundreds of lesser players enhance and get nothing out of it – I know that plenty of fans will never, ever forgive him.

That’s fine, I suppose. But I also know that whenever the Dodgers play the Reds, I will always think of what he did coming off the bench on July 22, 2009, for his own bobblehead night:

One thing I noticed during last night's game - Kenley Jansen's fastball velocity is down.  He should be up around 97-98 mph, and last night it was sitting in the 88-91 mph range.  Yes, he struck out the side (after giving up a baserunner), but he's not totally "back" yet.

So... Thtsapaddlin/Micro Scrotumo left me several vouchers for Dodgers tickets (each for two free Reserve Level or $20 off Pref Field Box seats). Turns out at this late date, the only game for which they're valid is the Sunday one against the Rox. Any takers?

Good news from the Nation's capitol. The Nats have exploded in the fourth inning for 6 runs and lead the Brewers 7-1 headed into the 5th!

I gotta say, the fans in Cincinnati were some of the nicest fans anywhere to this Dodger fan decked out in Dodger attire.  Some of the Midwest fans are also very nice and friendly - Chicago and Milwaukee - but there sure are some nasty folks in Minneapolis and the self-proclaimed "greatest fans in baseball" in St. Louis, who in actuality are among the game's worst.

I'd go back to Cincinnati to see the Dodgers again in a heartbeat.

still a stupid move to pitch Kershaw today.... I wouldn't even give a damn if the wild card race were within realistic reach, which it isn't

the risk-reward is just not there

totally stupid

@WBBsAs I've never been to a game at any of the 'ants stadiums (unless you count seeing the Mets at the Polo Grounds before they opened Shea).  But my sister has, and she goes in Dodger attire.  She says that the 'ants fans have treated her extremely nicely there.

Yes, Great American Ball Park is a very nice stadium.  And I never before realized that the name comes from naming rights for a company called Great American Insurance Group.  I thought the name was just a case of hubris.  :)

@CodeBlueICU   Kershaw's mysterious hip up there with the shooter on the grassy knoll, Roseanne Barr's singing coach, the Bermuda Triangle, and why Justin Bieber is popular.  Unsolved mysteries of life.

@CodeBlueICU what VeDod said, we don't actually know if it was a risk. If it is, i'm down with shutting him down, but if it ain't, roll him out.

who even knows?

@nsxtasy  @WBBsAs For all the bitching I do about those people (and, collectively, I hate them), the only abuse I've ever gotten was outside the stadium, and that was rarely more than "Dodgers suck!" Inside the stadium, the people where I sit (the 200 level) are generally friendly and well-informed, and good at giving and taking good-natured shit.

@nsxtasy I didn't know that either. I kinda liked the name before... as you said, "hubris."

@el serracho   @CodeBlueICU it's just the compensation they were talking about. he may not further damage his hip, but what if he puts more strain on his arm?
