Dodgers @ Padres September 26, 2012

Note: Mike’s on his honeymoon until September 28! Enjoy this auto-published post and help pray that some giant breaking news didn’t drop minutes before this fun yet otherwise fluffy post went up.

I know it’s probably blasphemous to say, but I have to be honest: I kind of love Petco Park. Every time I’ve been there, it’s been a fantastic experience. The first time I went was several years ago, in what I believe was the first game of John Smoltz‘ short time as a Cardinal. After sitting in the upper deck of a half-empty park for a few innings, we went closer and closer until in the bottom of the ninth, we were sitting in the lower deck, about 20 rows behind home plate.

An usher came up to us and asked to see our tickets, and we knew were busted, so we came clean right away and admitted that these were not our seats.

“Where are you from?”

New Jersey, we answered.

“Well, I can’t let you boys sit here.”

Yeah, we know, was the reply.

“Come with me. I’ve got better seats that you can use.”

And so he did, leading us down to about five rows behind home plate in what were and will likely always will be the best view I’ve ever had of a big league baseball game, if only for an inning. Fan experience counts, you know? Because here I am, three years later, still telling that story.

So after ripping on meatball Joe, by saturday night i will have paid good money to watch him pitch both in SF, and LA. That. Is baseball.

Fan asked Manny Acta if he would bunt more. Fan said he would bunt one of his best hitters with man on 1st, no outs (hey kinda like AJ all this year)

[Acta said unless the hitter in question is batting below .240, the stats suggest that you’re better off letting the hitter swing away.

“People think it’s the absolute right thing to bunt [in that situation],” Acta said, “but you need to check the stats. Back in the day, we didn’t have computers, we didn’t have Twitter, we didn’t have Facebook. They’ve come up with some things that make you open your eyes and not play like Casey Stengel used to play.”]

With two out in the ninth, the Rojos de Cincinnati tie the Cerveceros on a homer by Frasier. With the winning run on first, the legendary Dioner Navarro just misses two homers on fouls down the RF line, then doubles into the gap to give the Rojos the win.

Can MLB get the real umps back too? I'm sick of these replacement they've been using all year. they suck

"BREAKING: @Indians dismiss manager Manny Acta; name Sandy Alomar interim manager for final 6 games of season." Why would you dismiss a manager/coach with less than a week left in the season?

@el serracho Hey, it looks like he had some hits yesterday, too! (I'm still cursing the fact I had to miss that game of all games.)

@Oakland A's Fan My 5 year old boy said hell no to one of them when I took him to Anaheim in June! He said he wanted a sharks head over that lousy fish!

@WBBsAs Broxton... we all knew that he would shine again someplace else... I just hope for the Reds' sake that they don't put him in a really high-pressure sitch-ayshun in the playoffs

@capnsparrow @Antonio_G If, IF, the Dodgers fire Mattingly (which they won't), Acta is the guy I'd want personally. I'd love him as a bench coach or something for next season.

@LA Woman @Antonio_G @el serracho You did see a pitcher's duel that had never happened before. First time both pitchers went 8+ip, 10+k, 0bb

@Antonio_G  @el serracho Now that I think about it, I've only been to one game this year -- saw Kersh & Bumgarner in a pitching duel, which we lost 2-1.

@CodeBlueICU Well, with our staff it's kinda: Kershaw and everyone else. (Pick your poison.)

@Guitar  @WBBsAs You are repeating the narrative about "high pressure" situations. Broxton was the best Dodger reliever ever and closed out many playoff games and "high pressure situations" it's a load of BS
