Just all kinds of fun going on today, isn’t there? Chris Capuano, starting tonight in yet another must-win game (though it may not matter, given that the Cards are already up 1-0 against Mat Latos and the Reds) is dealing with a sore shoulder from… wait for it… “hitting himself with a donut the other day,” reports Dylan Hernandez. I’ll assume that means a batting donut and not, say, a jelly donut, but it’s far more fun to assume that it was some sort of pastry.
Speaking of pastries, Matt Treanor “apparently strained a side muscle during batting practice and headed to the clubhouse in obvious pain,” per Ken Gurnick. Treanor – who is not Capuano’s personal catcher – wasn’t in tonight’s lineup, but we can probably assume that it was just sympathy pain. Should anything happen to A.J. Ellis, we might actually get to see Tim Federowicz prove that he exists. Just want you’d want on October 2, right?
