Giants @ Dodgers October 3, 2012: The Battle of Who Could Care Less

Nope… still not over it.

You know, I think we all knew that tying St. Louis and getting into a one-game playoff on Thursday was unlikely in the best of situations. Even if the Dodgers had managed to pull out last night’s game, the Cardinals could still easily have won today and sewn it up, no matter what the Dodgers did today. I’ve been resigned to missing the playoffs for weeks; it’s really only been in the last 48 hours that I began to hope that a miracle was possible.

So it’s not really the lack of baseball beyond today that bothers me right now, since that was really always going to be the case. What’s weighing on me heaviest at the moment is how much today’s game, the 162nd and final of the season, has changed because of last night. I’m envisioning what a fantastic moment this could have been, you know? Dodger Stadium probably packed or close to it with a big day-of crowd, Clayton Kershaw on the hill, an electric playoff atmosphere in a beautiful late fall afternoon setting, and the Cardinals game not starting for nearly another hour after that.

It could have been great. In my mind, it’s fantastic. Now? Well, it’s little more than an anticlimactic exhibition, one in which it’s actually annoying that Kershaw is risking his hip injury by being allowed to start. Somewhat amazingly, it’s the usual lineup, save for Tim Federowicz making his first start behind the dish, and even that is probably only because Matt Treanor hurt himself yesterday. So yeah, take that, Alex Castellanos.

Anyway, enjoy the final game of 2012. Can’t say I’m too invested in the result, other than hoping no one gets hurt.

According to my TV's closed caption, if you repeal Obamacare the Simmons will pay an extra $600 million.

Sucks for them.
