Work At Dodger Stadium Progressing With Two Months to Go (Photo)

dodgerstadium_feb1_construction_large

The picture above (click to embiggen to a much larger version) was taken earlier today by commenter and friend “Kewldood69″ — his legal name, no doubt — and it shows a Dodger Stadium that’s still very much a work in progress, precisely two months prior to Opening Day against San Francisco. As you can see, the areas down the foul lines past the dugouts are still completely torn up, as is much of the lower seating bowl, and the new scoreboards have only the very beginnings of framework. In the outfield, much of the wall is either boarded up or missing altogether.

I don’t doubt that it’ll be ready for April 1, simply because the new ownership has put such a priority on this and on repairing public relations, and it’d be a massive embarrassment if it wasn’t ready — so it’ll be ready. Still, there’s clearly much work to be done; it’s fun to see it progressing like this.

When Opening Day arrives and the seating bowl is too fucked up, I'll be glad that I can't afford tickets within it.

What they really need to do is get rid of the hideous temporary buildings that house the gift shops

They are putting the floor back in down the 3rd base line. It will be ready in time. Awesome picture! Especially when you expand it. Thanks Kewl.

Especially now that ticket revenue is .00001% of total revenue.

@Guitar The wife watched Margaret with great anticipation; hated it.

And overrated movies? There is NO movie more overrated than "Lebowski."

@HiiiiEVERYBODY Mike has made two posts today. TWO. He actually designated a post to the construction of Dodger Stadium. That's normally just a discussion that happens in the comments.

@EephusBlue My brother graduates high school this year so I still have 4 1/2 months of high school to hear about.

@Lobo Denis Leary cracked me up in the late '90s when he talked about Titanic. He said that he fell asleep somewhere around the midpoint then woke up as Dicaprio was sinking into the ocean. He burst out laughing as people tried to shut him up.

talk to you later... going to play GoldenEye Reloaded

@Guitar My pick is Titanic.  I fucking hate that movie and don't understand why so many people love it.  I can't justifiably call Shawshank the most overrated film of all time because it is one of my all time favorites (#11 to be precise, just behind what I think actually is the greatest film of all time, Schindler's List).  I would say Lost in Translation is overrated but not that much.  I liked it but I didn't really find the message to be all that profound or anything but I feel that it's something where you have to have had an experience kind of along those lines to really appreciate the film.  Either way it's still a really well made and well acted film.

@Lobo "severely overrated (while I love Shawshank Redemption, it is not the greatest movie of all time)"

Oh, dude, I couldn't agree more about this point. I've declared that Shawshank is the most overrated movie of my lifetime. It surpassed "Lost in Translation" for that title a long time ago.

@Guitar You get the same problem with imdb though.  The taste is pretty good overall but you do get some movies that are severely overrated (while I love Shawshank Redemption, it is not the greatest movie of all time) or severely underrated because people tend to rank things on extremes (like 2001: A Space Odyssey which seems to only have 1 and 10 star rankings).

@Lobo better to have a huge sample size, I guess... or maybe just the entire population of cinephiles (imdb)

@Guitar I don't trust any magazine publication's movie rankings of any kind.  They're usually an amalgamation of several different people's opinions so what they determine is the best film is often one that was merely good enough that everyone liked it whereas the true best movies have lots of people fighting over which is actually best so that none of them rank number 1.
