Dodgers Sign White for Albuquerque; He Is the One Who Stinks

Hey, if you have more than 100 games of major league experience, your signing as a non-roster guy gets a mention. It’s just the way it is. Matt Eddy of Baseball America has the latest list of minor league transactions, and in addition to Mark Lowe & Kevin Gregg, who we knew about, it seems the Dodgers have signed former Mariner Sean White as well.

White, a righty reliever who will be 32 in April, saw action in 105 games out of the bullpen for his hometown Mariners in 2007 and 09-10. He pitched to a 4.16/4.49 ERA/FIP, which is bad but perhaps shockingly good when you realize that in 134 innings, he struck out only 59. Unsurprisingly, it’s hard to stick around in the bigs like that, and so White has seen time in the PCL in each of the last five seasons — 2008-10 in Tacoma, 2011 in Colorado Springs, and 2012 in Salt Lake, where he signed in May after having been released by the Red Sox in spring training. I know that the PCL is going to PCL, but over the last two seasons there, he’s pitched 110 innings, striking out and walking an even 75 apiece while allowing 86 earned runs.

After reading all that, I’m wondering if he’s even worthy of the Isotopes, because: yikes. Later today, we’ll kick off Chris Jackson’s projections of the minor league rosters and see if White has a shot in a crowded group.

Last night on MLB network I saw TLR and several others roundtable discussion. If you missed it you should find the replay of it. TLR spoke very little but what he said was very profound. Especially when asked about Instant reply and most notably about the expanded window of interleague play and the DH. "The National League treasures their style of play. You will never see the DH in the National League. Playing for 1 run and defending against 1 run is the most challenging aspect in baseball. And the National League will always keep that aspect of their game." I give him the respect and support that statement deserves! Most of us dislike TLR for a lot of reasons. Me, mostly for his success at at our expense. But he knocked it out of the park last night!
