For the record, no — I’m not planning on running game threads for every spring training game, since the games are mostly during the work day and they tend to get pretty tedious, pretty quickly. There’s two exceptions to that, however; if the game is televised (of which there are disappointingly few), and when it’s the first game of the spring.
Today falls under the latter category, because Clayton Kershaw is on the mound against Dylan Axelrod and the White Sox in a game that has no meaning whatsoever but what the hell, it’s baseball.
Well, in theory it’s baseball, because even though it’s happening in Arizona it might as well be taking place on the moon — we won’t be able to see it. You can at least hear it on KLAC 570 AM or on MLB.com, and lord bless you if you’re so desperate for baseball today that you’ll be listening to Charley Steiner talk about the pitchers who aren’t Kershaw (Matt Magill, Stephen Fife, Mark Lowe, Ronald Belisario, Kelvin De La Cruz, & Gregory Infante, to be exact) pitching against whatever scrubs the White Sox will have out there long after Paul Konerko & Adam Dunn are gone.
I don’t mean that as a pejorative in any way, of course. I’m absolutely that desperate for baseball.
