Padres @ Dodgers April 16, 2013: Capuano vs Marquis

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150

For the last several days we’ve all been complaining about the Carlos Quentin-fueled brawl that broke Zack Greinke‘s collarbone, but for the most part it’s just been talk.

Tonight, we see the implications on the field for the first time, because rather than Greinke on the mound against San Diego, Chris Capuano makes his first start of the season. He’ll be backed by the regular lineup other than Luis Cruz, who takes a seat as his brutal April continues. You know what that means, though, don’t you? It’s Juan Uribe time! Expect a homer and three gifably awful strikeouts. The man is nothing if not entertaining.

All sorts of Dodger related-notes from around the internet today…

** At ESPN, fellow Terrier Jerry Crasnick speaks with former Dodger Bobby Abreu, who has decided to take the year off but plans to try to return to the big leagues in 2014.

** Over at FanGraphs, Carl Crawford gets some positive play from Dave Cameron, arguing that part of Crawford’s resurgence is that he’s become much more selective at the plate.

** Ted Lilly gets another rehab start at 6:05pt for Rancho Cucamonga as they visit the Lake Elsinore Storm. Chase Headley is hitting third for the Storm tonight, in what may be his final rehab appearance as well.

** We spent most of today talking about Dee Gordon, Luis Cruz, and the shortstop situation. Don Mattingly has not considered bringing up Gordon, as Bill Shaikin reports. In another tweet, Shaikin says that Hanley Ramirez “says he’ll be back well before mid-May projection”. That’s mostly good news, though we should know by now that hand injuries are tough for hitters to return from, and rushing usually doesn’t end well.

** When Josh Wall was promoted yesterday to replace the injured Shawn Tolleson, that left a hole in the Isotopes bullpen. Per the team, Kelvin De La Cruz has been promoted from Chattanooga to take the spot. It’s De La Cruz’ first time above Double-A in his eighth year of professional baseball.

** Tolleson’s back injury, by the way, sounds more serious than we first thought, reports J.P. Hoornstra.

Tonight’s bullpen status is below ,and the relief corps were heavily used last night after Chad Billingsley left. Here’s to hoping we see the first-half Capuano, and not the version we saw down the stretch last year. If not, Mattingly indicated there is no long man, and that it’d turn into a full bullpen game.

So much for sweeping the Pods. The jerk in me now really wants somebody to bean Headley, though I wouldn't actually want that since Kershaw is on the mound.

Any of you guys know if they allow something like a GoPro on skydives or only their own equipment so they can change more?

@nudibranch He's DHing today.  Maybe we could bring him up for the O's series to DH?  It would at least be entertaining.

@funkyjam I've never done a skydive, so I'm kind of at their mercy

@Antonio G Over the summer I'm hoping for a skydive and white water rafting. I guess I have a death wish

@Dang88 was it intentional? IE 95 mph fastball? In all seriousness, I hope it wasn't.

@DeucesWild @Antonio G Skydiving is awesome. You'll have a blast. Unfortunately, I can't help you with your qeustion, because I want 12 years ago and GoPro didn't exist. Hell, digital cameras where still the hot new shit. They hadn't even put them on cell phones yet.

I would not claim "tons of gangbangers" are fans. That just sounds like bad breath coming from a Dodgers fan. You know the stereotypes, dont promote them.

From what I've heard, the clientele are awful at that stadium. Tons of gangbangers. Plus, it's a dump. None of the As fans that I know are proud to have it as a stadium
