Dodgers @ Mets April 25, 2013: Ryu vs Hefner

citifieldI don’t want to talk about last night, and neither do you, so let’s not. Let’s focus on today’s series finale in New York, in which — believe it or not, after all the doom-and-gloom — the Dodgers could come away with a series victory.

You’ll notice that today’s lineup has a distinct “getaway day at the end of a road trip” feel to it, which is to be expected. Ramon Hernandez starts in place of A.J. Ellis, which makes sense on a day game following an extra-inning night game, but it’s fascinating in that this is the third time in a row that Hernandez is catching Hyun-jin Ryu. If this is to be a permanent relationship, I’d love to know why it falls to the catcher who didn’t get the benefit of an entire spring with the pitcher who doesn’t speak English. Since only Paco Rodriguez & Matt Guerrier weren’t used in last night’s loss — see below — it’s important Ryu have a solid outing today.

Elsewhere, Nick Punto starts in place of Mark Ellis at second, while Luis Cruz sits yet again and appears to be completely out of the rotation at this point. That gets Juan Uribe a start at third base, and I’d like to say there’s about a 99.4% chance he’ll go deep today. Why? Because I’ll be at today’s game — don’t hold your breath on a speedy game recap this afternoon — and when I saw these two teams last summer, Uribe not only received a rare start, he went deep off of eventual Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey — because of course he did. (Now that I think about it, A.J. Ellis sat in that game as well, making this twice in a row that one of my favorite players sits while Uribe starts with me in attendance.)

In other news, we won’t be seeing reliever Shawn Tolleson for a while — the 25-year-old righty will undergo back surgery that will keep him out for 3-5 months, potentially ending his season if it’s on the high side of that. While that’s hardly a fatal blow to the team, it’s disappointing as many of us have been pretty high on him for a while. At the least, we won’t have to worry about 40-man roster questions for a while, because two will open up when he and Chad Billingsley are inevitably moved to the 60-day disabled list.

That's right haters Uribe made the winning hit.  Not only that but he got on base every time he went to bat (even if three of those were walks).  Urbie just ate your milkshake.

"They're not pounding guys like they should, and they didn't pound Hefner at all."

I think Kemp's going to have a much more restful flight home then he did when they left!

@Missing U Hanley I'm guessing the contracts are with the Dodgers and not Fox.  Manny Moto is now with the Spanish broadcast team.  Basically pulled out of the dugout, so I don't think Fox could do that.  Which also means that if the Dodgers did want to go in a different direction they can drop anyone they want.

@Missing U Hanley Are all Dodgers announcers employed by the Dodgers or Fox?  Would love to loose some dead weight in the booth as well as the bench next season.

@Ely K @capnsparrow  I understood, "thank you" very easily.  Must be from the last 2 years when everytime he got a check he was like, "thank you!"
