Brewers @ Dodgers April 28, 2013: Lohse vs Kershaw

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150I suppose Ramon Hernandez isn’t just Hyun-jin Ryu‘s personal catcher, because he gets a chance to work with Clayton Kershaw today. Like the rest of you, I’d like to see A.J. Ellis and his .397 OBP in the lineup every single day, but I think we do need to be cognizant of not running him into the ground, and at least Don Mattingly is sticking to his pre-season statement that he’d rest Ellis more. A day game after a night game seems as good a time as any to do so.

At the moment, there’s no news of a roster move for the Dodgers. That’s interesting because it seems more likely than not that Mark Ellis is headed to the disabled list and Matt Magill back to Albuquerque, but so far neither has happened. Magill isn’t likely to get another start with a Thursday off day and Chris Capuano on the comeback trail, so you’d expect that they’d put his roster spot to another use. Alex Castellanos and Elian Herrera are each in today’s Isotope lineup, so not them, apparently; J.P. Hoornstra notes that Skip Schumaker would have had to pitch the 12th inning last night if the game had went that far, so another bullpen arm might not be a bad idea either.

Per Eric Stephen, Ellis was testing his leg before the game today and briefly said he “feels good”, though I’ll still be surprised if he avoids the disabled list.

As for who is here, Justin Sellers & Juan Uribe make up the left side of the infield, and I’m truly wondering if we’ve already seen the final start of the Luis Cruz era. Mattingly noted that tomorrow isn’t out of the question for Hanley Ramirez to return, and while that still seems a little optimistic, it seems clear that Ramirez will be back in the next few days.

When Ramirez returns, someone has to go, and perhaps it is as simple as moving Ellis to the disabled list. But if not, I think we all know it won’t be Nick Punto or Schumaker or Jerry Hairston headed out the door, and Uribe’s actually shown some amount of utility thus far. That’ll put it down to Sellers or Cruz, and while the difference between them is probably minimal, Sellers has at least shown signs of life lately. Cruz hasn’t.

That’s a question for tonight or tomorrow, however. For today, we have Clayton Kershaw against Kyle Lohse, and that’s not a bad matchup at all.

when Pablo comes up to bat on Gameday they should widen out the figure that they have in the batters box by 3x

Up 6-2 with men on 1st and 3rd, 2 out, Kyle Blanks steals second base on an 0-2 pitch.

Got home just in time to see Kershaw's last K. Looked like he was just called out of the 'pen.

Kershaw is so fun to watch. He's probably the best Dodger I've seen in my lifetime

I'd rather him pitch hard strikes with movement than try to strike people out

Have you seen him in the showers? The little things

@NewBlue Yeah but if he was throwing "hard strikes with movement" he'd have more K's than he does right now.
