Rockies 7, Dodgers 2: Who Cares, Puig is Coming

magill_sanfran_2013-05-04I don’t want to talk about Matt Magill or this game, and neither do you. Eric Stephen has it all summed up in fewer than 140 characters, anyway:

At least Billy Pierce was a seven-time All-Star who pitched for 18 years in the big leagues?

Anyway, there is literally nothing else worth mentioning from today, so let’s be happy that the Dodgers are finally leaving Colorado.

Besides, it’s what’s coming up that’s more fun. Yasiel Puig was seen leaving the Chattanooga ballpark before today’s game, and Ken Gurnick confirms that he has been promoted, with Magill getting shipped out. Puig is almost certainly going to be playing in the outfield tomorrow in Los Angeles… so at least that will be fun.

Today is one of most exciting days in Dodger's history.  Any of you LA guys going to the game tonight?

I still have faith that Kemp and the rest of the walking wounded can turn this around.

Some Dodger fans have little sense of irony, but you have to admire how the rapid and rabid revolt against Kemp for his shortcomings in 2013 has been accompanied by urgent calls for him to be replaced by the player who most resembles him.

Seven years ago, Kemp was Puig – the raw kid with talent to burn and lessons to learn. Puig, like Kemp did when he hit the majors at age 21 in 2006, has a hugely bright future. But anyone putting their faith in Puig will almost certainly at some point need a level of patience that many fans have denied Kemp whenever he has struggled, no matter how much he has done for his team.

I'll be there. I was planning on catching up on game of thrones with my girlfriend, but Puig. Luckily she understands the Importance of Puig.

Too much?

@LA_Woman I didn't know that Kemp has had an OPS+ greater than 100 every year but his rookie year and this year.  Would have thought that 2010 at least was slightly below average though he did hit 28 homers that year.  Just goes to show how good he is, even in his worst fulls season in the bigs he's a slightly above average player.

@LA_Woman swear that my Puig draft I wrote last night had reference to 2006 Kemp before I saw jon's article.

@LA_Woman I didn't know Kemp was only 21 when he hit the majors. I guess I've never paid attention to his age. I remember he hit like 7 homeruns in his first 10 games or something.

@Cochito Commish I heard the Pirates pen has pitched a ton of innings this year, more than ours, and has been exceptional.  In fact, I just looked it up, and they are tops in ERA, #3 in IP.  I say this because people trot out the excuse that our pen is overworked so of course they should suck.  Not so fast.

Time to retire that excuse, the Dodgers bullpen doesn't even rank in the top half of IP in MLB.

@LA_Woman @Cochito Commish Hah, what the hell. His middle name is Edward. I have no idea why he'd change his name like that. I was at the game where he hit his first two homeruns, it was pretty neat.

@Cochito Commish @LA_Woman  Weird. I had/have this guy named Nick Franklin. I was just looking for him as I set my lineup for tomorrow and couldn't find him. Then I figured out his name has now changed to EDMUNDO Franklin. Shades of Michael => Giancarlo Stanton

@Cochito Commish @LA_Woman  I can't believe I DFA's him. He was in such I slump when I had him.

BTW... mission accomplished. I passed the Blanketeers this week. The next goal will not be as easy as the last three: to pass Bob.

@LA_Woman Dom Brown of the Phillies had a ridiculous week. 8 runs, 12 hits, 7 HRs, 13 RBIs, 2 SB and a .444 average. I will now sit back and watch Puig top that.

Phil would probably turn the team into a winner. He's badass like that.
