Rockies @ Dodgers July 12, 2013: Nicasio vs Kershaw

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150When the Dodgers briefly — and I mean briefly — had Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, and Yasiel Puig all active, everyone wanted to know how they’d manage to keep all four in the lineup and happy. My answer was that it didn’t matter, really, because between injury histories and platoon splits the problem would basically solve itself. That happened quickly when Kemp injured his shoulder, and now it’s going even further thanks to the news that Carl Crawford is sidelined with a sore lower back. He’d been in the starting lineup tonight and was scratched in favor of Skip Schumaker after feeling soreness before the game… and so that’s why you can’t trade Andre Ethier right now.

Puig’s hip, apparently, is healthy enough to allow him to play, since he was in the original lineup before Crawford was removed. (Not, for the record, that I’m completely thrilled with having him play through an injury which is still bothering him.)

To be honest, there’s not a whole lot of other news coming out of Dodger Stadium right now. The Rockies sent down last night’s starter, Drew Pomeranz, in order to activate Juan Nicasio, but that’s about it.

The Diamondbacks send Patrick Corbin against Tom Gorzelanny and the Brewers in just a few minutes, and the Dodgers will need some help there if they’re going to have a shot to get to first before the break.

But otherwise, it’s kind of business as usual if you can get past all the Puig business from today. In addition to my piece here, we had similar articles from Chad Moriyama, Will Leitch, and Tim Brown, and pretty much all of us had the same take: the backlash is absurd and unnecessary, and hopefully will be blowing over soon. So enjoy Clayton Kershaw on a warm summer night, since we’ll soon be without Dodger baseball for four days.

Interesting. Chase Utley is putting up a wRC+ near his 30 HR days as pretty much an exclusively pull hitter. What's more interesting is that he's slashing .320/.391/.639!/1.031 on the road as opposed to .229/.276/.356/.632 at home. And even though his slash line is .233/.300/.493 against lefties, he still has a 117 wRC+ against them. Can we get Utley this year, please? Thanks.

Just a thought, how awesome would it be if Puig's wingman, er interpreter, was using lines from Anchorman when he's chatting up women for Puig? Y'know, Young Puig sees some cute girl from Malibu and has his interpreter go talk to her and he busts out with "I wanna say something. I'm gonna put it out there. And if you like, you can keep it. If you don't, send it right back. I wanna be on you."

I think that would be fucking hilarious.

Okay, guys. AJ Ellis, Joc Pederson, Zach Lee, and Andre Ethier for Joe Mauer. Anyone? Eh? Eh!?

Without looking, can anyone tell me who the leader in WAR is for 2013?

Google doesn't really need mechanical engineers.

@DBrim I actually have a friend who works at SpaceSystems Lorale. If you wanted I could ask him about information or if he knows of other relevant companies. But not unless that job actually interests you.

@DBrim And Google isn't the only one who does that. Google kind of amped up what was required for job desirability in Silicoln Valley

@DBrim hahahaha damn. Fine. But SpaceSystems Lorale I'm sure would love some.

@SpaceDodgers @Weston Taylor Yeah, but I've been up all night and didn't think it through. SUE ME, OKAY?!

And yesterday's game went like this: BABIP, BABIP, me falling asleep, me waking up, Howell, Ethier base hit in the ninth, marine layer>Hanley, game over.

@Weston Taylor @SpaceDodgers Well. Let's see. We're on a Dodger Blog. Why else would we bring up a non-hitter kicking ass in WAR? I still have no idea what happened in yesterday's game. I've been in this lab all night and successfully avoided baseball except for a couple of glances in a few innings
