Dodgers @ Nationals July 19, 2013: Sweet Lord There’s Finally Baseball

nationalsparkIt’s now been four days without baseball, and most of a fifth today… and enough already. I’m sure the players appreciate the break in the midst of a long season, but it’s absolutely brutal for the rest of us, especially with no other sports going on right now. That second off day in a row yesterday is a killer, and that’s just compounded by the fact that MLB scheduled zero day games today.

For the Dodgers, the break was probably both a blessing and a curse. Considering the outfield aches to Carl Crawford & Yasiel Puig, it was nice to have the time off, as we saw with how badly the team struggled to score runs against Colorado. On the other hand, no team in baseball was as hot as the Dodgers were heading into the break, winning 17 of their previous 22.

Crawford and Puig are each back in the lineup on what appears to be a dangerously hot day in the DC area, and to be completely honest, given the assets currently at his disposal, this is basically the best possible lineup Don Mattingly could have put together. Juan Uribe‘s playing third over Nick Punto & Jerry Hairston, and Mark Ellis is hitting eighth. It’s all too rare to say this, but there’s almost nothing at all I’d change here.

Matt Kemp is still on the disabled list — he is eligible to return on Sunday, and expects to be ready — so Andre Ethier remains in center field. He may want to be more cautious than usual, if this picture tweeted by Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post is any indication, because center field at Nationals Park looks pretty rough right now after a recent Paul McCartney concert.

The bullpen, of course, is fully rested behind Ricky Nolasco, who represents a rarity tonight — he’s a starting pitcher who is starting a second consecutive game for the team.

it's fun rooting for rivals because when they suck or something bad happens, instead of being angry or annoyed, you can just laugh

@JoeyE  Ryu is fine.  Capuano can be a problem, but he can neutralize 2 of their power bats (Lind and Rasmus).
