Reds @ Dodgers July 25, 2013: Smell You Later, Ted Lilly

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150I thought I was already having a good day, enjoying a trip to Nationals Park that ended with a Bryce Harper walk-off. Then I found out that Ted Lilly got designated for assignment, and good day suddenly turns into GREAT day. Sadly, I’m on the road with just my phone, so I can’t go resuscitate the “Lilly DFA!” draft I saved months ago, but know that I’m happy in DC nonetheless. I’d probably be happier if this happened yesterday when Matt Kemp went on the DL rather than activating Lilly for one day, because that means Elian Herrera is up rather than Scott Van Slyke, but it’s all good news nonetheless.

Back on normal timezone. Fuck the LA air feels so good compared to the sweaty suffocation in San Antonio.

The only way you could take on Cliff Lee was to take on Jonathan Papelbon and eat all the money in both deals while giving up Stripling and Lee, would you do it?

@Broken Glass Beimel I live in Mexico and...soccer is not interesting. At least, not Mexican soccer. El Club de Fútbol Monterrey can bring all the hot fans they want, it still won't make it better.

@PagansOedipalComplex don't think I could say without knowing more in depth the finances of the Dodgers and the implications of luxury tax moving forward... if it would threaten signing Kershaw to an extension or retaining Hanley after 2014 (assuming he remains healthy/productive), then no...

If it wouldn't have an impact on future moves, sure.

Nah, it's not too bad these days. You've been conditioned to think so, though.

@PagansOedipalComplex @dodgersdan just saying, that would be the bigger threat to a Kershaw extension and other moves than the Papelbon contract.

but if that isn't going to be an issue for ownership, then sure, do it!

@PagansOedipalComplex @dodgersdan I'd be more worried about Cliff Lee's salary simply because it is worth between $62.5m and $77.5m for 2014-2015 (2016 on the high end if option vests). That's a lot to risk for age 35-37 seasons as well.
