Yankees @ Dodgers July 30, 2013: Real Baseball, Not Trade Rumors

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150You know, with all this business about Brian Wilson and the impending trading deadline flying around, you almost forget that the Dodgers are welcoming the New York Yankees into town tonight, and while the Yankees aren’t exactly what they once were, that’s still a marquee matchup that simply does not happen that often. Regardless of how you feel about Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, if you’re a baseball fan there’s still something special about seeing them on the field, especially with Vin Scully on the air.

This is the third time that the Yankees will visit Dodger Stadium in the regular season, and you probably remember what happened the last time — Joe Torre did his absolute best to murder Jonathan Broxton. Fun, right?

Fortunately, Torre is nowhere to be found these days, while Broxton has never been the same. As for the newest addition to the Dodger bullpen, Wilson’s deal is official for a $1m base salary, reports Jim Bowden, and he’s been added to the payroll sheet. Wilson is now on the 40-man roster, taking one of the two remaining open spots, and he will be placed the 15-day disabled list as he goes to the minors for a rehab stint.

For those worrying about whether the ongoing disagreement between Time Warner and CBS means you won’t be able to watch tonight’s KCAL game, worry no more. Eric Stephen has details on a negotiating extension that will allow tonight’s game to be broadcast unimpeded; it’s also available on MLB Network.

Those watching will see what is basically the best possible lineup Don Mattingly has to offer right now. Carl Crawford is in the starting lineup for the first time since Friday after what was revealed to be a throat infection, and A.J. Ellis is actually hitting fifth, above Andre Ethier, with lefty Andy Pettitte on the mound.

Can’t argue with that, really, nor can you argue with Zack Greinke & Clayton Kershaw lined up to face the Yankees. Should be a fun 24 hours or so.

When the game got into the 9th, I seriously thought it was the 8th and you guys kept saying "walkoff", I kept thinking "why do they expect a walkoff in the 8th?".

Red Sox get one bad call and ESPN calling for replay.  Slow down.
