Rays @ Dodgers August 10, 2013: Nothing But Wins

dodger_stadium_2013_150x150Still haven’t quite wrapped your head around last night’s crazy comeback victory? Yeah, me neither. It’s not just the unbelievable ninth inning, either, that ended up with the team’s eleventh consecutive victory in one-run games (h/t Jon Weisman). It’s the fact that a tired team that rolled out nearly their entire bench and their fifth (arguably sixth) starter against Tampa Bay ace — and future Dodger? – David Price managed to somehow turn what looked to be a punt into a victory.

Coming off that, Zack Greinke has most of the regulars behind him as the Dodgers attempt to win their 147th series in a row*. (*may not be accurate, but feels about right, no?) Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier, and A.J. Ellis all return to the lineup, pushing Yasiel Puig back to right field where he probably belongs. No Hanley Ramirez once again, though he did pinch-hit last night without incident and may be ready to return to the lineup tomorrow.

The Rays counter with Roberto Hernandez, and no, that’s not the same Dodger reliever who infuriated me during a brief live blog six (!) years ago — (six? really?) — it’s the former Cleveland starter once known as Fausto Carmona. While Puig slides back to right, Wil Myers stays in center field; according to the Rays, last night was the first time since Ralph Kiner and Marv Rickert in 1946 that a game featured two rookies playing center and hitting cleanup.

Remember, today’s game is on “big FOX”, though the coverage map is pretty good, with the game being broadcast in what looks to be about 80% of the country. Unfortunately, there’s a sizable amount of Dodger fans in the Bay Area, and you’ll be stuck with the Halloween nightmare that is Orioles at Giants.

I just watched the hidden ball trick play for the first time. So awesome. Glad we still won, because now it's just hilarious.

So when's the Yasiel Puig,  Paragon of Plate Discipline post coming? He's got a 24% BB rate this month

I think its funny that the west coasters go to bed when we're getting up, meaning there is literally no time of the day where MSTI is inactive.

So Kershaw is pitching tonight? Guess Breaking Bad is waiting until after the game (or after he's out), then.

I just decided to give House of Cards a chance, and wow. Great show so far. Spacey is as good as ever and Kate Mara is absolutely beautiful. Safe to say that the show has my attention

I absolutely love how giddy Longoria is after the tag.

@ JohnM there's usually about a two hour gap, though. Roughly 6-8am ET / 3-5am PT

@LA_Woman Thanks for posting it.  I actually get a kick out of stuff like this.  Doesn't bother me that TB pulled it; Uribe's and Wallach's faults for not paying attention.

@Catfishin He was also upbeat after brain surgery, losing is no big thing compared to that

@Cochito Commish That's probably my favorite show on tv at the moment, it's so awesome. I just love Walt's transition from innocent high school teacher to complete bad ass meth kingpin. New episode later today!!
