Dodgers @ Giants Sept. 24, 2013: More Of This?

attparkI’m honestly trying to figure out what I care about less — the whole business about the Dodgers supposedly urinating in the Arizona pool, or the series in San Francisco that kicks off tonight.

I’ll say this about the pool thing and leave it at that. If someone did that in the pool, it’s over the line and not at all defensible, and I generally trust Tony Jackson and his reporting. On the other hand, for the moment, all we have is a second-hand report. As usual, Grant Brisbee has by far the best response to this, to the point that there’s really nothing else to say about it. You’re number one, Grant.

Somehow, there’s still regular season baseball to be played before the playoffs get moving, and I’m straining myself to act invested here. The good news is that the Dodgers roll out what is essentially the regular starting lineup tonight against Matt Cain. The bad news is that Andre Ethier is not a part of that lineup, since he’s still having pain when trying to run the bases.

The playoffs still don’t start for nine more days, so there’s time enough for Ethier to get himself feeling better. Still, you start to wonder what his status is for the first round if he’s unable to get into more than one or two games after missing so much time; if so, then as usual the “too many outfielders problem” will have fixed itself. Unfortunately, that would most likely mean that Jerry Hairston makes the roster, and that’s not good for anyone. Come back soon, Andre. We need you.

I don't remember being as wrong about a pitcher as I was about Hyun-Jin Ryu. I figured he was going to be Ted Lilly, and the Dodgers already had one of those. Ryu showed up in the spring throwing high-80s, and I figured the league would catch up with the change. Nope. He's good. And he's around for a while. The Giants will have to spend twice as much on Masahiro Tanaka and hope for the same results. - Grant B.

Does anyone know how many games we have had all 4 outfielders available to play?

@NeDieterich The list he links to that he wrote back in the Spring is pretty hilarious

He probably figures everyone watched the game, since it was such an important one.

@Lobo @NeDieterich Grant's line from Spring Training, prophetic re: Ryu.

"Now that I've written this, he's almost certainly going to go nuts. You're welcome, Dodger fans."

Kemp knows he can't compete with Ryu, in the batflip department.

@Disgruntled Goat @steelmohawk Both my parents were born and raised in Philly so all my relatives live within a 200 mile radius of the city...many trips back east for a drink of wooder

I used to really hate the south, and its dense population of objectionable people.  Then my dad moved to bumfuck Washington(state) and these same objectionable people were everywhere, so now I just hate every state equally.

@Disgruntled Goat @Lobo What do you mean, what's with all the questions?  What do you have against questions?  Why do you want to be left alone?  Is this enough questions for you?

@Disgruntled Goat @Lobo "Southerners" is pretty broad, but I loved the South. It took me some time to get used to talking to strangers, but I liked that the questions were usually about you as a person and not like in the NE where I always feel that people are trying to figure out if they can use me to get ahead or not.

@steelmohawk a good friend lives there and is really soft spoken with very little accent...of course i constantly tell him how loud and awful his diction is. so fun.

Philly accents are probably the worst accents in the US.

@Disgruntled Goat East Coasters are definitely similar in my limited experience.  But certainly in comparison to Southerners and Mid-Westerners (my main point of reference at this point), we are considerably louder

In my experience Californians speak more quietly than our counterparts on the east coast. I can tell by the volume, before the accent, when i'm in the presence of folks from PA, NY, or NJ.

I say "dude" more than most people here.

It is weird to run in to people with the valley girl thing, and finding out they aren't from California.

In my experience, the California accent isn't as much of an accent as others but its there. It's just mostly a matter of talking louder and faster with a few CA specific expressions thrown in
