Moments ago, the Dodgers announced which prospects they’d be sending to the Arizona Fall League, a month-long annual collection of the top talent. This year’s names for the Glendale Desert Dogs: infielder Corey Seager, catchers Pratt Maynard & Chris O’Brien, and outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez. Seager was recently promoted to High-A Rancho Cucamonga, where Maynard & O’Brien already are; Cavazos-Galvez has spent his time in Double-A Chattanooga. Only Seager is considered to be a real prospect.
You’ll notice no pitchers included, but that’s likely to change (J.P. Hoornstra suggests four pitchers may end up going.) Last year, the Dodgers initially announced their players headed to the Mesa Solar Sox to be pitchers Red Patterson, Eric Eadington, & Paco Rodriguez, catcher Gorman Erickson, infielder Rafael Ynoa, and outfielders Yasiel Puig & Joc Pederson. Puig, of course, never made it after coming down with an elbow infection, and pitchers Chris Reed, Onelki Garcia, & Andres Santiago were later added.
This year’s AFL begins play on Tuesday, October 8, and the Glendale team will call Camelback Ranch home.
